Peptitler (Grekçe: πεπτίδια; “küçük sindirilebilirler”) teşhismlanmış bir düzende, α-amino asitlerin birbirine bağlamlanmasıyla oluşan endamsız polimerlerdir.[1] Bir amino hamız lakırtııntısı ile başkası arasındaki bağ bir “amit bağ” veya peptit bağı olarak bilinir.[1]
Tetrapeptit (Oligopeptit)
Proteinler polipeptit molekülleridir (veya çok sayıda polipeptit ast birimi barındırır). Yapı taşı ayırt peptitlerin endamsız, polipeptitlerin/proteinlerin ise uzun olmasıdır.[1]
Protein sentezi sırasında her amino hamız, özge amino asite kalıcı, kırılmayan bir polimer olan polipeptid zincirleriyle bağlamlanır. Polipeptid yapısına peklan amino asitlerin her biri yapıya peptid bağlamlarıyla bağlamlanır. Peptid bağının oluşumu sırasında amino asitlerden birinin amino grubu ile diğerinin karboksil grubu, aradan bir akarsu çıkması sonucu birleşirler.[1]
Vasati bir polipeptit zinciri 450 amino asitten oluşur.[1] Bilindik en uzun polipeptit, yaklaşık 27,000 amino asitten oluşan, kas dokusunda kâin “titin”dir. Polipeptid zincirine peklan amino asitlere lakırtııntı (residue) adı verilir.[1] Zincirin bir ucundaki lakırtııntı, bağ yapmamış, serbest amino grubu barındırır ve N ucu olarak adlandırılır. Aynı şekilde zincirin özge ucundaki serbest α-karboksil grubu olan lakırtııntıevet C ucu adı verilir.
